Malisson Radio began as an Internet radio station called Radio CJ, operated by current station manager C.J. Malm. Originally split between broadcast centers in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, the station is now operated entirely from the suburbs of Pittsburgh.
The station officially began broadcasting its 200-song music rotation at 9:00 PM EDT on Monday, October 1, 2007. The first live broadcast was from C.J.'s dorm room on October 2nd, and 10 hours of weekly scheduled programming from around North America soon followed. Unfortunately, the station's main broadcast PC was also C.J.'s school laptop, causing frequent station outages.
Radio CJ was renamed Malisson Radio in November 2007, but shortly faced financial difficulties and a temporary station shutdown. The next broadcast would be in March, 2008, from a rented broadcast server and upgraded automation software. (Click here to see what the home page looked like at that time!) This was the first time that Malisson Radio would broadcast on a 24-hour schedule and have its own logo. That summer, the station's music catalog was updated and diversified, and the current broadcasting machine was purchased.
Malisson Radio was added to the iTunes Radio directory in November, 2008 under the Pop and Eclectic genres (It was removed from the Pop genre in late 2009). Plans to join the FM dial on a low-wattage transmitter are currently on hold.
